Now in its 22nd year, Vohon is praised for its colourful diversity of talent, its amazing ability to transcend the traditional into new cultural landscapes, and its power to ignite the stage from the first Pryvit to the final Hopak! The Ensemble is currently under the qualified artistic direction of Ken Kachmar, Trish Kushniruk and Garrett Nestorowich. Together they have many years of dance and instructional experience. Their unique styles combine to provide the dancers with challenging and innovative choreography, including both regional repertoire and character storyline pieces. Under this team, the group of over 50 dancers presents a skillful blend of Ukrainian folk dance, ballet, modern and jazz dance. The result is a captivating display of experimental Ukrainian Dance that is blazing a remarkable path for the group around the world! Since its inception, Vohon has had the privilege of performing at premier Ukrainian Festivals and other performances across Western Canada, the United States, Australia, Germany, Scotland, Thailand, China, Japan, and - summer 2010 in Brazil. Job Description:
- Choreograph and instruct Ukrainian dancing for dancers ranging in age from 4 to adult.
- Conduct various dance workshops throughout the year.
- Choreograph & direct annual year-end concert.
- Attendance at two festivals, Family Social (February), and year-end concert (May/June).
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive training and experience in Ukrainian dance. Knowledge and experience in other areas of dance would be an asset. Previous dance instruction experience is mandatory.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of regional choreography, music, and costuming are required.
- Ability to work with dancers ranging in age from 4 to adult in a positive and encouraging environment while maintaining discipline and structure.
- Able to effectively communicate and work with Group Representative, Board members & Coordinators.
Location & Features:
- Zirka owns the Ukrainian National Home dance studio in Calmar, Alberta
- Facility includes: Dance Studio with Full Length Mirrors &, Ballet Bars, Lunchroom, Change rooms, Washrooms, Costume Storage and Boardroom facilities.
- Extensive inventory of handmade costuming, props.
- Zirka owns its own ‘Costume Van’ for Club-Costume transportation.
- Zirka owns its own Portable Stage but also performs out of the Leduc Performing Arts Center.

- Be able to attend two festivals, Malanka and year-end concert.

- Extensive training and experience in Ukrainian dance. Knowledge and experience in other areas of dance would be an asset.
