Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
Mary Church is looking for a
Youth
Coordinator
In an
increasingly hectic youth culture filled with outside influences,
youth ministers, adult leaders, and the entire parish community
are challenged to cultivate the God given
gift of each
teen in a parish, so that the teen may be inspired to give back to
his/her
community and
build the Kingdom of God.
Youth Ministry seeks to draw
young people to responsible participation in the
life,
mission, and work of the faith community.
Youth
Ministry works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth
of each young person. These objectives are shared by Youth
Coordinators both in the Ukrainian Catholic churches and Orman
Catholic churches across Canada.
The
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary church is looking for a
youth coordinator who has a background in Education, Religion,
Sports and Recreation, Event Planning or other work with young
people. The Youth Coordinator would work with the Eparchial Youth
Coordinator and other parish Youth Coordinators to plan programs,
and attend other programs with the youth in the parish. The Youth
Coordinator would work mostly with junior and senior high school
students and involve them in the organization Ukrainian Catholic
Youth. The coordinator would also work in conjunction with other
parish organizations like Children of Mary, Alter Boys, Sadochok,
Women’s League and the parish council executive.
The Youth
Coordinator is responsible for building the membership and
providing programs and opportunities for all teens in the parish.
Responsibilities include program planning and development,

networking with the Youth Ministry Office and other youth
coordinators.

and comfortable communication style
-

expected. The tasks vary but the coordinator can expect the time
to be divided: Administration and Communication (50% of hours)
Event Facilitation ( 30%) and Evaluating Events, Personal
Training and Personal Education opportunities ( 20%)
We
also plan to fill a position for a

There are
8 components in place to guide the youth coordinator’s
programming. Someone with gifts or experience in ANY of the
following areas would guide our youth effectively:
Leadership
Development:
Parish
community empowers youth to assume leadership roles in their
communities, including active participation in ministry.
Parish
Community Life:
Allows for the growth of Christian community through social
interaction and participation in the life of the church and the
community.
Evangelization:
Empowers teens to be a witness to the Gospel message, and to
proclaim the message in word and act to those in their communities
who have not experienced it.
Pastoral Care:
Parish utilizes various strategies to provide guidance and support
as youth face life decisions. Provides care for both youth and
families through counseling and referral if necessary. Provides
positive influence as youth face moral challenges.
Catechesis:
Provides for growth in a teen’s faith identity. Fosters communal
identity by teaching and witnessing an understanding of the
Catholic Christian faith.
Justice &
Service:
Empowers youth
to be a witness to the Church’s social teaching, defending the
rights of all peoples. Calls upon youth to serve those in need.
Advocacy:
Interprets the needs of the teen and his/her family, and speaks
and acts on their behalf. Acts as a representative of U.C.Y. on a
parish and Eparchial level. Empowers youth to address the problems
Prayer &
Worship:
Provides youth various communal prayer and liturgy to strengthen
their relationship with Jesus. Encourages youth to actively
participate in sacramental ministry in their parish community.
It is the
challenge of youth ministers, pastors, adult leaders, and the
entire parish community to implement each of these components into
a comprehensive model, creating youth ministry programs.
Comprehensive Youth Ministry is...
TO youth,
WITH youth, BY youth, and FOR Youth.
